Sonora produces 280,000 tons of pork

Pork producers of Sonora generate an annual output of 285,000 tons of meat, of which 60 000 are intended for export to the United States and other markets in Asia. The president of the Association of Pork Producers of the State of Sonora, Benjamin Aguilar Gutierrez said in an interview with Notimex that the entity pork products reach the markets of Japan, Korea and Vietnam. He said that the pig is an economic activity that takes place mainly in the cities of Hermosillo, Cajeme, Navojoa and Huatabampo, where he has a herd of two million 700 thousand pigs in production.

He said that of the 285 thousand tons of pork that occur annually in the state, 60,000 are destined for export markets mentioned, where the Sonoran product is recognized for its high level of sanitation. The remaining production, he noted, is intended for marketing in the domestic market. However, for several years the Mexican pig farming has been increasingly affected by the indiscriminate importation of pork, below its production cost, mainly leg and shoulder. He said that this situation is shifting production generated in the country and take activity to many producers, which have lost a lot of direct and indirect jobs. He noted that therefore the federal sector authorities requested their support to attack the crisis that occurs in the pig through the delivery of support to the activity corresponding to 2015 and are pending cover. In addition, raised, hog producers need support from the federal authority to demonstrate the entry of pork products to the country at dumping prices to end the crisis in this activity.

He said that they also requested cancel Mexican Official Standard NOM 030-ZOO-1995, which has been an important defense mechanism against disease in Mexican pig. The pork industry consumes more than 600,000 tons of grain a year, but paid $ 60 more per ton of grain that is imported from the United States and that affects them against their northern neighbor competitors.
